Buttercup - Buttercup Counts Her Blessings, Marydon - Blushing Rose, and myself went off to the Arlington Cemetery for our Sunday tour. Buttercup came down from New York for the Saturday tea party. I was so thrilled to meet the beautiful lady behind the blog. She is absolutely gorgeous in person and a walking book of knowledge. I so enjoyed my visit with her. Like any visit, there is never enough time. If you haven't visited Buttercup, please pop over and say hi. You will be so blessed believe me. After visiting my post, click on Marydon's link and go see another piece of our trip we shared together. We thought it would be fun for you all to blog hop back and forth. And we are off.

Now Mr. Country Wings gave me specific instructions to go and see Audie Murphy's burial place. He was the most decorated American soldier in World War II, and one of Mr. Country Wings favorite western actors. So, here I am DH, just for you.

One of the beautiful gardens we passed along the tour.

I was so honored to be able to stand and watch the changing of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It was one of the most moving moments I have ever been privledged to observe. I couldn't wipe the tears fast enough. It tugged at my heart.

Here Buttercup and I stand in front of the tomb. It is such an awesome site.

Just me and my shadow.

Here I am at the eternal flame of President John F. Kennedy. It was put out one time by accident when a Catholic school group doused it with Holy water. A quick thinking guard quickly relit the flame with a lighter. The current flame burns in the center of a 5-foot circle of granite at the head of the grave. If it is ever extinguished, a flashing electric spark near the tip of the nozzle relights it instantly. And occasionally, the flame is shut off for maintenance.

Look at the beautiful scene behind me. You can see everything from this hillside. I found it to be quite breathtaking. Marydon and Harold, thank you so much for sharing this beautiful piece of history with me. I couldn't have asked for better guides than the two of you. You are the BEST.
As always, thank you for stopping by my little piece of heaven here in the desert, that I so love to call home. Don't forget to go and visit Marydon at Blushing Rose and see another piece of our time together. Memories to last a lifetime. Country hugs,

Oh Arlington. Truly the most awe-inspiring place in our country. What a wonderful adventure you're having, meeting all these lovely ladies, going places, having fun. It's great, Sherry. Thank you for sharing with us. xx's
Whine, sniff, boo-hoo! You get back out here ... I am lonesome.
Gosh, sis, we had such a wonderful time with Carol, didn't we! An absolute sweetheart, she is.
This is one of our favorite spots in all of the Washington, DC arenas ... the solemn beauty of the men who gave so selflessly for us to remain a free nation ... as they look out over the terrain they protected. May God bless & keep their souls. Thank you for your love of us all.
Harold is enroute to NYC tonight ... he & associate are driving up on short notice ... I don't have anyone to play with for 2 whole days!
Maybe I should start playing Free Cell, eh? Chuckle! LOL!!
Hugs of love, sweet sis ~

I have always wanted to visit this cemetery, wonderful pictures. You all look so lovely.....:-) Hugs
Wow Sherry ! You had a most fabulous trip. How wonderful that you've met a sister of your heart. I have a few of those that really help me navigate this world. My husband was living in West Virginia when we met. Such beautiful countryside to be found there. My mom is from Millersburg OH close to Amish Country there so we visit Amish Country nearly every year. I truly love their simple way of life. More people should get back to that kind of lifestyle rather than always wanting more and more. The Amish are not leaving a carbon footprint on the earth, that's for sure! Wishing you a most wonderful Wednesday and hope you are over that cold by now. Many blessings, Tammy
HI!!!!
I have been to Arlingotn National Cemetary at least 3 times, and I still cry and still stand in awe!!!!
Audie Nurphy is one of my family's fav actors as well, so much so, my Uncle wanted his daughter to name her son that and to this day he calls his grandson Audie!!!!His real name is Chase!!!!
The changing of the guard they stand there all year long, all night long, NO --NO standing they march, they walk 21 steps -click their heals and sstep again, it is perfect to a T!!!!!

I can remember going to Arlington Cemetery when I was about 14. It was the peak of the Vietnam war & I can remember watching a funeral procession of a soldier KIA. When they played the taps I can remember my Mother & I both crying!!
This was in 1966 just a couple of years after JFK was killed & that was so moving!! This is a place with so much history.......
Great photos!!
Hugs,
Marilyn

I've had the privilege of seeing the Changing of the Gurads by the Old Guard a few times and it never ceases to amaze me...the awe and reverence to the ones who are there at the time is just inspiring...the silence of them all.....well done!
Love this post.
Hi Sweet Sherry,
Ah yes, Arlington. truly an awe inspiring place. I really think every American should be required to visit there before they are allowed to vote... but i won't step up on that soapbox today! Arlington is so humbling, really makes me grateful to all of our men and women who risk their lives every day and those who have in the past so we can have this country! How they bless us! Looks like you had an incredible trip, I love being able to share it with you!
Sparkly Hugs,
Tobi and the Pixies!

Hi Sherry
Sounds like you're having a wonderful time. If you were in Lancaster PA then you were really close to me. I've had my plate full lately, but am glad to know that you were somewhat in my neck of the woods.

It's been a few years since I was in DC or in Amish country but I loved both. Your photos are wonderful! Felt like I was right there too. Thanks- oh, I think I'm already a follower.
What a special place to visit. he view fro the hill is amazing, I didn't realize it was so close to Washington DC. I imagine this is the kind of experience you never forget.
I'm so envious that you've been to Arlington. Washington DC is high on my list of places to visit ~ DH says we have enough air mails, but I think DS is too little for a cultural trip like that.
Hi, thank you for visiting my blog today! It is so nice to meet You! I was in Phoenix once a few years ago, well maybe 7! A stop over to visit my son after visiting one who was then living in Seattle. I liked the desert but I do not think I could have lived there! Seeing your photos of Arlington made me think of my brother who is now 78! He once was a Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, I hvew never visited DC. My husband goes every year in the spring for meetings. I stay home to watch the dog! This year I painted the bedroom while caring for our pug.
Blessings, wishing you a wonderful day/week.
